It’s challenging to follow your life’s purpose if you’re yet to discover it. It’s even more complicated if you do not understand what constitutes ‘life purpose.’ Now, your life purpose is your primary reason for living. It’s that thing that inspires you to get up each morning.
Based on this definition, it’s logical to imagine that only the employed should have a purpose in life. However, everyone (employed or not) should have specific goals in life that they aspire to accomplish before kicking the proverbial bucket. Your life purpose influences your thoughts and actions. It also shapes your goals while continually giving you a reason to face each day.  

It’s also important to note that your life purpose doesn’t have to be unique. It can be shared with your peers or family members. The only difference is that the universe desires us to pursue our life purpose individually. You can rely on the support of well-meaning friends and relatives to achieve specific goals. But the drive to accomplish your purpose in this world must come from within you. 

Deal With Stress and Anxiety 

Anxiety can affect various aspects of your mental health. The condition can diminish your concentration, reduce your decision-making skills, and even affect your memory. Without treatment, feelings of anxiety can take your focus off your life purpose. Whenever you feel a compelling urge to accomplish something, a dissenting voice will always remind you of how incapable you are. Doubting your abilities is a classic example of self-sabotaging thoughts, also known as self-limiting. These behaviors, actions, or attitudes keep you from achieving your heart’s desires.  

The following are additional types of self-sabotaging thoughts besides self-doubt: 

  • Unwarranted self-criticism 
  • Procrastination 
  • Perfectionism 
  • Poor self-care 
  • Compulsive desire to please others 
  • Pessimism 
  • Resisting change 

If entertained long enough, self-limiting thoughts can stifle your progress and prevent you from pursuing your purpose in life. So, the earlier you release them, the easier it will be to create your realities. The good news is that there are multiple ways to discard self-sabotaging thoughts and refocus on your dreams.
